About Our Youth Programs
GMAACC’s youth program, which began in 2014, started with Malden youth investigating how to improve the conditions for Asian American community members in their own city.
“There’s no other organization that trusts and invests in their youth like GMAACC. It gave me the opportunities to step up in my community, and I don’t think I would have grown the same as a leader without them.” — Mandy S.

Youth Organizing Group (YOG)
Organized by Annabel Shu
Youth Organizing Group (YOG) is a space for Malden youth to engage in place-based learning in the greater Malden area. Youth learn about their identities and history, identify issues in their communities, and plan and implement a change project to address the issues. Youth also ideate and create projects that address social and emotional needs of Asian American youth in Malden, as well as for a way for youth to engage in improving the wellness conditions of their own communities.
Asian American Studies Course for AAPI High Schoolers
Taught by Tufts Professor Emeritus Jean Wu and educator Katie Li
In this two month course, Jean Wu and Katie Li will facilitate weekly sessions with a cohort of ten AAPI high school students to explore and make meaning of the racialized lived experiences of AAPIs through the lenses of AAPI history, political identity and existing systems/structures of power.
